1 Abstract The topic of the thesis is serial murder and its investigation. The aim of the text is to provide a more comprehensive view on the issue of serial murder. Nowadays, the incidence of serial murder is decreasing worlwide. Nevertheless it is still a very topical phenomenon, as it is capable of significantly disrupting the stability of society. The thesis first examines the phenomenon of serial murder from the perspective of internationally accepted definitions and current Czech law. The individual components of the definitions, the distinction between different types of multicide and the historical development of the phenomenon are then analysed. Using two fundamental typologies, the perpetrators of serial are classified based on their behaviour at the crime scene and their motive for the murders. Victims are examined both in terms of general victimology and in terms of the predispositions to become a victim of serial murder. The method of committing serial murder is divided into two components, which are the external observable manifestations of the perpetrator and the psychological processes taking place in his mind. Serial Murder Investigations
Kayed, Albert ; Krupička, Jiří (advisor) ; Šelleng, Dalibor (referee)
Serial murder attracts a lot of layman and scholarly interest alike. Disproportionate majority of scholarly literature in Czech Republic delves into its psychological aspects and offender profiling. Much smaller portion of literature focuses on other specifics of its investigation. This thesis aims to describe specific problems in the area of investigation and possible solutions to those problems. With regards to the state of Czech and foreign scholarly sources on the topic, literature from English-speaking countries is utilized extensively. When possible and suitable, the output of foreign research is transefered into Czech conditions or a comparison is made. Thesis is continuosly bolstered with case summaries that help to demonstrate topics at hand in practice. The cases chosen are primarily from Czech Republic (or Czechoslovakia, respectively) if available. First chapter focuses on defining serial murder in relation to certain specifics, that are typical for serial murder, even if they don't occur every time. Second chapter focuses on problematics of identifying serial murder with extra focus on situations where physical evidence unequivocally connecting murders into a series isn't available. This chapter also delves into "linkage analysis" as a special application of behavioral analysis. Third...

The Issue of an Offender's Personality in Criminology
Miškovská, Bára ; Marešová, Alena (advisor) ; Zoubková, Ivana (referee)
The Issue of an Offender's Personality in Criminology In my diploma thesis, I have focused on the offender's personality in Criminology. Even though the personality of each person is individual, it still has some features that are common to more offenders. By describing these characteristics and factors, I tried to find the answer to the question whether a person is predestined to be a killer or whether it depends on our decisions. In connection with this, I was asking myself whether it is possible to know in advance that someone has a predisposition to be a killer or whether murder can be prevented. Can we choose our destiny? The diploma thesis is divided into two parts. After defining the basic concepts, in the second chapter I describe the offender's personality from the point of view of psychology, criminology and criminal law. In the third chapter I provide an overview of criminological theories, formed during the development of criminology, where a divergence from the conception of born criminal is perceptible. The fourth chapter is devoted to individual types of offenders and is complemented by chapter five that deals with factors that affect criminal behaviour. The second part of my work is divided into five chapters, where the chapter six and seven deal with a murder and a personality of...

Kofránková, Helena ; Štourač, Petr (advisor) ; Musil, Jan (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is "Methodology of Murder Investigation (Selected Problems)". Because this is a very wide subject, it is not within the diplomate's reach to cover the matter completely enough for a diploma thesis and the thesis therefore focuses on the methodology of the investigation of serial murders. The first chapter is devoted to defining the term "serial murder" and the differentiation between serial, mass and spree killers is explained. The legal classification of serial killing within Czech criminal law is briefly outlined. The second chapter focuses on criminal character. It examines the typical characteristics of serial killers, their biological and social preconditions, the psychology behind a first murder and the profile of the serial killer. Further, the separation of serial killers into the organized and unorganized is shown, including characteristic features. From the perspective of criminal characterization, the work further discusses victims of serial killings, with an emphasis on themes of the methods of perpetration. Within this, differences between the terms ‚modus operandi' and ‚signature' are explained. The individual phases of killing are determined. Murder weapons, as well as classifications of the scenes of crimes and serial killers according to mobility...
